Fireman Sam is a British comedy children’s television series created by Rob Lee with the idea from David Gingell and David Jones & first produced by Bumper Film (series 1-4), later produced by HiT Entertainment/Mattel Television (Series 5 onwards). Following the adventures of Fireman Sam Jones and his fellow firefighters Elvis Cridlingtion, Penny Morris, & Station Officer Steel, in the fictional welsh town of PontyPandy (a portmanteau of two real towns, Pontypridd and Tonypandy).
Fireman Sam first appeared as Sam Tân (Fireman Sam in Welsh) on S4C on 1 November 1987, and a few weeks later on BBC One on 17 November. The original series finished in 1994, and a new series that expanded the character cast commenced in 2005. The series was also shown as Sam Smalaidh in Gaelic in Scotland. The series was sold to over 40 countries and has been used across the United Kingdom to promote fire safety.
Summary[]
Somewhere in the hills and valleys of Wales is the little known town of Pontypandy, the home of Fireman Sam. Sam and the rest of the crew, Fire Officer Steele and Fireman "Elvis' Cridlington are ever ready to speed into action at the first sign of an emergency.
When he's not at the wheel of "Jupiter' his fire engine, Sam can usually be found in his inventing shed , making madcap machines to the delight of his niece and nephew, sarah and James.
Not far from the fire station is Bella's Cafe, where Sam often joins Trevor the Bus for a morning cuppa. Even more alert than Pontypandy's finest fire service is Mrs Price the town busybody. All the characters blend together into an appealing mixture of fun and entertainment for children and families across the globe.
