Dumping Ground

The Dumping Ground is a BAFTA-winning British children's television series, which premiered on CBBC and BBC HD on 4 January 2013.

The series is a spin-off from The Story of Tracy Beaker, and a direct continuation of Tracy Beaker Returns. The first series aired until March 2013, then in May a second series was confirmed for January 2014, preceded by a Christmas special in December 2013. The show currently has 12 series, with a thirteenth series beginning airing on 17 January 2025. None of the characters from Tracy Beaker Returns or The Dumping Ground (prior to series 10) now appear in the show, and Jody was the last character who also appeared in Tracy Beaker Returns to leave at the start of Series 10. The show now features an entirely new cast, with none of the original cast. After Floss left in series 10, the show currently does not feature any other characters who lived in Elmtree House.

Summary[]

The Dumping Ground explores the lives, experiences, and concerns of the residents of Ashdene Ridge (the former home of Tracy Beaker). The series addresses themes such as friendship, divorce, fostering, LGBTQ+ parenting, and bullying. Similar to its predecessors, Tracy Beaker Returns and The Story of Tracy Beaker, the show incorporates on-screen illustrations to depict the characters' thoughts and emotions. However, this concept was discontinued in Series 11.

Production[]

Tracy Beaker Returns was initially planned to have a fourth season, which was scheduled to air in January 2013. However, in 2011, Dani Harmer announced her plan to take a step back from the role of Tracy to pursue other projects. Consequently, in 2012, the fourth season was revived and retitled "The Dumping Ground" as a replacement for Tracy Beaker Returns. The retitled series was released in January 2013.
