Premise[]

On a stormy sea crossing, way back in the 10th century, Sigurd the Viking falls from his longship and ends up washed ashore in the present day. Finding himself in the seaside town of Flotby, Siggy hides in local B&B called the Viking Hotel, run by Keith and Penny Ellis (with the help of their children Tim and Zoe).

Meanwhile, famous archaeologist Mrs Tibblethwaite comes to stay at the guesthouse. She's a Viking expert - but will she recognise Siggy as the genuine article?

Characters[]

  • Clare Thomas as Zoe - Zoe is 13 and like all girls of her age, she spends a lot of her time on the phone. Her brother Tim is an unfortunate accessory as far as she's concerned, and as for Siggy... Well, if Tim wasn't embarrassing enough, now Zoe has this great big, slobbering presence to contend with and finds it even harder to appear cool in front of her mates.
  • Tim - Tim is 10 years old and the youngest of the Ellis family. Like any boy of his age, Tim would love to be out on the beach playing football after school, would give anything to join his mate Jack Thripp at the Flotby Odeon on a Saturday afternoon - but unfortunately, those are the times when Tim finds himself dragooned into helping round the hotel. So instead of watching Buzz Lightyear soaring "to infinity and beyond", he's scraping Shepherd's Pie into the swingbin and stacking the dishwasher.
  • Mrs Tibblethwaite is a Viking archaeologist and the VIP guest at the Viking hotel. Working at an archaeological dig in Flotby, Mrs Tibblethwaiteshe is a stern critical academic, obsessed by her work, something of harridan and Siggy is crazy about her. Unfortunately, the feeling is not mutual.Despite being an eminent authority on the ancient Vikings she adamantly refuses to believe that Siggy is a genuine Viking.
  • Keith and Penny - Keith and Penny own the Viking Hotel, a run-down seaside B&B, struggling to make ends meet. Penny is pragmatic and practical. Punctilious with the accounts and great with a screwdriver. Keith is the eternal optimist. As the hotel struggles to survive Keith hangs his hopes of financial security for the hotel on the imminent arrival of VIP guest Mrs Tibblethwaite, hoping that she will recommend the hotel to her colleagues.
  • Mr Thripp - Mr Thripp owns the poshest hotel in Flotby, the Hotel Grand. He is keen to buy the Ellis' hotel so that he can expand his business. Mr Thripp regards the Ellises as amateurs in the hotel trade, and expects to see them go bankrupt very soon. But he reckons without Siggy.
